Dr. Melissa Kiner has a Psy. D in School Psychology from Hofstra University , an M.S. in Psychology from Hofstra University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Binghamton University.

Melissa Kiner is a licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist. Her clinical training was at an acute care psychiatric hospital for adolescents and adults. She was hired to work on the adolescent unit and was subsequently employed at a day treatment program for children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbance, in a joint role as both a Treatment Coordinator and a Crisis Intervention Specialist. She has worked with children and adolescents experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, and difficulty with peer relationships. She taught effective coping strategies and prosocial skills to children. She has worked with parents and teachers to create and implement behavioral management strategies to help children succeed at home in and the classroom. She has been teaching at various colleges and working with undergraduate students since 2013 and currently holds the position of Lecturer in the Psychology Department at SUNY Old Westbury.

My approach to therapy is centered in cognitive behavioral practices supplemented with dialectical behavioral therapy tools. I can help you work toward your goals with problem solving strategies and help you utilize skills to increase assertiveness and decrease anxiety. With my creativity and genuine enthusiasm, and your motivation and dedication, we will work together to help you achieve your potential.
